CULTURE & CAREERS
Do meaningful work. Grow your career.
Widerfunnel is an organization that intends to prove that evidence-based decisions get the best results. Our people are our engine to achieve this, and we believe our unique culture is the fuel. This is reflected in our ongoing commitment to creating an environment focused on equality, inclusion, empowerment and respect. When our teams feel supported and inspired, they turn that creativity into innovation to serve our clients and do what’s best for each other.
Fridays are optional at Widerfunnel. The only rule is that the work gets done. If that means that you want to work Friday to finish a project then that is fine. But, if you have wrapped up early – feel free to hit the beach, spend time with your kids, watch a movie, clean your house – do whatever you’d like!
Health and Benefits Plan
We care about our team members’ wellbeing, which is why we offer a health & benefits plan that is intended to provide them with security, flexibility and accessibility. Our plan is 100% employer paid and administered through two providers – Canada Life (formerly Great-West Life) and MyHSA. The two components of the Health & Benefits plan are: Extended Health Coverage (Canada Life) and Flexible Health Spending Account (MyHSA).
We value our team members’ health, and we know that sometimes taking time away from work is necessary to maintain our health and wellness. If you are not well enough to work, you should take the time to rest and recover. We provide 12 paid wellness days to all team members for periods of temporary absence due to health reasons.
Maternity and parental leave
It is important to us that our team members feel that a career with Widerfunnel is compatible with their life goals outside of work. And this of course includes the addition of a new child to the family! Funded at 75% take 8 weeks off, after two years at Widerfunnel take 12 weeks off funded at 75%.
We know that having a full, healthy, well-rounded life is supported by taking time off each year to rest, reflect, spend focused time with loved ones, and explore new places. Our team members get between 3-6 weeks of paid vacation. It has also been our practice to ‘close’ our office each year between Christmas and New Years Day so that the whole team can take a break at once.
Work from anywhere
We offer our team members the ability to work from anywhere in the world, for up to 20 business days or 4 weeks per year. We know your adventure will add richness to your life, and we hope the experiences you have will bring you insights you can contribute within the company.
Diversity & Inclusion
We believe diversity and inclusivity make teams and Widerfunnel better. And we live this belief by creating an equitable and inclusive workforce, cultivating an inclusive team member experience, investing in their development and fostering equality. We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace by listening to our team members. We want to successfully create a more equitable place where our goals, initiatives, and commitments to action are shaped and strengthened by these voices.
At Widerfunnel, we recognise the benefits of a diverse workforce and are committed to providing a working environment free from discrimination. We seek to promote the principles of equality and diversity in everything we do. We ensure that no team member or job applicant is discriminated either directly or indirectly, on the grounds of gender, race (including colour, nationality, caste and ethnic origin), disability, sexual orientation, marital status, age, religion or belief.
Widerfunnel is at its best when every member of our team feels respected, included, and heard—when everyone can show up as themselves and do their best work every day.
When we talk about culture, what we mean is the shared set of values, behaviours, practices, attitudes and goals that characterize our company. This is for both prospective hires, as well as existing team members.
We’re an organization of highly intelligent, high-performing individuals, who are interested in doing excellent work. At the same time, we’re humble – Widerfunnelers take their work very seriously, but don’t take themselves too seriously.
We’re a team that is all pulling in the same direction. We’re interested in collective success, and we support each other fully without ego or drama. This is a balance we have found to be a unique and important driver in our success.
Access to Accelerators
Our “Accelerator” team has regular standing 1:1s, answers all team members’ questions through AHA’s, coffee meetings and brainstorming sessions with everyone whether you’ve been here for 1 day or 5 years.
Every month our CEO hosts a breakfast, where he connects with team members and you get to chat about anything and everything. Team members are selected on a rotating basis, and you will receive a calendar invite when it is your turn.
Culture of recognition
As an organization we want to make sure that we offer rewards and recognition that reinforces the behaviours that promote the values of our organization, team member performance, and their personal sense of purpose. There is some awesome work that happens at Widerfunnel and we find ways of appreciating and saying Thank you, for everything our team members do to contribute to the success of Widerfunnel.
Every Friday at 4 pm the whole team gathers for company updates and to share their weekly professional and personal awesomes. It’s a favourite Widerfunnel ritual. This is a great opportunity to get a pulse on what is going on in other teams, and connect with your team members before heading into the weekend.
Work hard, play hard is the motto! At Widerfunnel, we like taking time to connect with each other, and our Ops Team plans and facilitates a variety of team building activities on a regular basis to encourage team building with our entire team – not just one department! We get competitive, have fun, and learn new things together and about each other.
Widergiving (volunteer time off)
WiderGiving is a social responsibility program designed to provide the time and opportunity for all team members to increase their community service involvement through individual volunteer efforts. Each team member can take one Volunteer Day per quarter.
We carefully selected and designed an office in a central downtown location, right across the street from Waterfront Skytrain station, with a very awesome view.
The annual Widerfunnel retreat is an important tradition for our company, and a key cultural moment for us. Each year we organize an offsite retreat that every Widerfunnel team member is invited to attend, where we review our business, make big plans for the future, and deepen our relationships with each other. The retreat takes place at a different location each year, and always involves some high quality learning, discussion, and way too much fun.
Great coffee, tea and fresh fruit
We provide great quality, free and unlimited coffee and tea for our team members. We also receive a weekly delivery of fresh, organic fruit from SPUD, to further fuel our team members.
Office gym membership
Our newly renovated and retrofitted building has built a top of the line fitness facility right within the property. Widerfunnel team members have the ability to access the building gym at no cost.
Woof! We love your furry friend just as much as you do. Bring your (well behaved) doggo into the office any time. Our resident dog, Mr. Remington will be excited to see you.
All new team members attend a comprehensive orientation program in which they connect with coworkers, clients and the Accelerators to learn how we share a set of values, behaviours, practices, attitudes and goals that characterize our company. By providing an in-depth introduction to our vision, we give our team members a solid foundation on which to build future career success and make a positive impact within the organization.
70:20:10 L&D model
We enable learning for all our team members through the 70:20:10 model, in which 70 percent of learning takes place on the job, 20 percent through interaction and collaboration, and 10 percent through formal-learning interventions or conferences.
As an organization we are very intentional about the success of our team members and therefore coaching is an integral part of our Learning and Development strategy. Managers provide weekly coaching to employees to help foster a growth mindset, understand their career goals and together identify opportunities that can help them towards those goals.
1-on-1 meetings are a key component of a successful ongoing feedback model. These sessions give managers and employees uninterrupted time to discuss projects, review performance, and remove any road blocks.
Specific skill workshops
Since we operate in a highly niche industry we also provide opportunities to enable team members to learn a new skill, refresh their knowledge, and keep in touch with new developments in the industry. These opportunities are identified either by a team member through their 70:20:10 development plan, ther manager, or People and Culture.
Membership to applicable industry associations
Membership to applicable industry associations helps us stay current with any new developments and trends in our field and gives us immediate access to these innovations and changes.
